Born and raised in Traverse City, Michigan, singer-songwriter Rob Bolin first began to discover his passion for music through the help of his family. With a mother who stayed at home listening to James Taylor, Hank Williams Sr., and Cat Stevens, and a brother who taught him the ropes of guitar playing at the ripe age of 10, it comes as no surprise that Bolin has taken a liking to a genre practically of his very own. Classified as “Northern Grit”, Bolin’s Folk/Americana vocals are enriched with emotion, pain, and passion. “Ya know? Some of these songs are just my pain and God bless it because it gets me songs,” says Bolin. “It hurts to sing some of them because it brings you back to a time that was hard to be in. But hey, that’s what I went through. And I know so many others that DON'T have the ability to write songs,paint,draw,etc. to express how they feel at the time of what they're going through, and it's for those people that I write them for. No one is EVER alone in this world."

"I also love writing happy songs as well (laugh)" says Bolin. "They are a bit harder to write down though" He says with a smile on his face.

Shying away from the everyday symbolism of most pop songs, Bolin’s lyrics grab ahold of the listener and transport them to a certain time and place giving the emotion a rare sense of palpability.
It didn’t take long for people to begin recognizing the uncommon and exceptional qualities of Bolin. With the help of television shows such as CMT’s “Can You Duet?” and the ever-popular American Idol, the buzz surrounding him has only grown infinitely. It helps too that these shows focus greatly on what Bolin considers to be his defining quality, the live show. “To me it’s about the live performance. It’s there and then it’s gone. You need the right songs and you need to be behind it or no one will believe what you’re singing.”
